Supporting Those in Crisis: Partnership with The Bahamas Crisis Centre
Senator Darron Pickstock demonstrates his commitment to vulnerable members of our community through his generous monetary donation to The Bahamas Crisis Centre. Recognizing the critical role this organization plays in providing support services to individuals and families facing domestic violence, sexual assault, and other traumatic situations, Senator Pickstock’s contribution helps ensure that essential counseling, emergency shelter, and advocacy services remain accessible to those in need. This donation reflects his understanding that a strong community must protect and support its most vulnerable citizens, and his belief that investing in crisis intervention services creates a safer, more resilient society for all Bahamians.
Journey International Youth Organization
Tour & BAIC Intro
On Friday July 25th, Executive Chairman of BAIC, Sen the Hon Darron Pickstock welcomed 35 students from the non profit youth organization Journey International. The organization lead by Ms. Taylor is focused on positively impacting the lives of our young people.
Chairman Pickstock mentioned to the students the important role BAIC plays in the Food Eco system in the Bahamas and Entrepreneurship opportunities available to them through BAIC.
The Students toured the Produce Exchange where they were able to select 3 locally grown Produce.They were also given by Journey International $10.00 to purchased items giving them the opportunity to experience and appreciate the value chain in supporting our local farmers. They then toured the Fish and Farm Store where they purchased seeds and seedlings and later Project ICE an Art Studio located in the Soldier Road Industrial Park.
The students were pleased with the tour and showed interest in becoming our future Farmers and Entrepreneurs.
Student Government Associations
Student Government Associations (SGA) are powerful incubators of democracy, advocating for student rights, and shaping the leaders of tomorrow.
Yesterday, I had the privilege of joining our Deputy Prime Minister in supporting the new student leaders at the University of The Bahamas. I was especially pleased to meet Edwin Waldron, the newly elected SGA President, along with Destiny Neely, Vice President, and Juliayah Rhamming, Secretary General. Together with their team, they will guide and represent the student body over the next year.
As a nation, we must continue to invest in and encourage our youth, for they are the architects of our future. I look forward to the positive impact of their leadership and congratulate Edwin, Destiny, Juliayah, and all the student leaders stepping up to serve!
